Eppelation News - wine education with a splash!

Greeting wine devotees!

We're off to Australia later this week to visit family and wanted to check in with you before we leave.  In this edition of Eppelation News you'll find details of our new wine feature, upcoming wine classes and wine events, and some thoughts on a trip to Napa/Sonoma.

Until April,

Mark & Karen Eppel

new wine feature

As promised, our new wine feature includes a white and a red wine, both very reasonably priced for the quality.

Take a foray into the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region of Germany with the delicious, very slightly sweet, Riesling Bernkastler Kurfurstlay|2008 from Riesling masters,  J&H Selbach.  This wine was a hit in our Wine Elements: Back to Basics class. Plenty of fruit, minerality and racy acidity make this a perfect food wine.  Don't let the long name put you off - this wine is worth a try!

Our red wine feature is the sensational J. L. Chave Saint Joseph Rouge "Offerus"|2007 from the St. Joseph appellation of France's Northern Rhone Valley.  An inky ruby Syrah, with luscious layers of fruits, smoke and chocolate - not to be missed.  J.L. Chave is considered the best producer in the region and is renowned throughout the world for its terrior-driven wines.  This is a real treat as our Rhone class attendees can attest.

This feature runs from March 14 - April 3rd and is available at Pringles, Supermarket Liquors and Wilbur's  in Ft. Collins, and World Beverage in Loveland. To learn more about our wine features, visit our wine feature page.

wine classes

With our Roaming the Rhone classes wrapped up, we now turn to northern Italy to say ciao to the stylish wines of Tre Venezia - the collective name for three provinces of Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the Veneto.  Known for fabulous whites, the Tre Venezia is also home to some intriguing and delicious reds.

Join us as we delve into this fascinating region and taste a great line-up of Tre Venezia wines, including a great comparison tasting and a real treat to finish with....  We are running the Ciao! Tre Venezia classes on April 4th and April 18th.  This is a bargain for $20!  Hope you can make it.

upcoming wine events

April in Ft. Collins is packed with wine events and here are some of them to tantalize your palate....

Wine Fest: April 22, the Hilton, Ft. Collins. By now you're probably aware that we're part of the Wine Fest team, Northern Colorado's premier wine tasting event to benefit Disabled Resource Services. We would love to see you all there - it's a very fun evening of wine (and beer) tasting, great food, great silent auction items and more!  Tickets can be purchased online for a chance to win a night at the Hilton (so you don't have to drive home!).

The Taste: April 14, the Hilton Ft. Collins. Another worthy cause and chance to sample some fantastic wines and foods while supporting Neighbor to Neighbor and the Ft. Collins Food Bank.  See The Taste website for more details.

Enzio's April Wine Dinners:  Mark will be the guest wine expert at Enzio'sTuesday's with vino in April.  Tuesday April 5 and April 19. More information coming soon.

Napa / Sonoma Wine trip anyone?

We lived in Napa for three years and have a hankering to go back on a wine trip and take a group with us.  Insider knowledge of great wineries and other local attractions (you need a break from the wine - trust us!), a full schedule of wining and dining with some free time - anyone interested?  We're putting out feelers out now and if there's any interest we'd love to do a trip in early September over a long weekend.  Possibly Labor Day weekend, or the following weekend...  Please email us if you have any interest at all.  This would be a trip of a lifetime!
